The Short Trip Home

Last Friday I had 4 wisdom teeth pulled and now I'm on the mend. I haven't had any major problems, but I am still sore and I have a major bruise from the IV. I figure it'll be a couple of weeks before I'm feeling back to normal. Looking back, the trip home must have been interesting for Ashley. First of all, I had a mouth full of gauze and still thought I could talk, plus I was still drifting in and out of consciousness. After dropping off my prescription, I asked Ashley to go to the BlookShlop for a maghashine. So we drove around a bit and went back to Walgreen’s for my meds. Ashley had me write my request on a piece of paper this time. I wanted some pomegranate green tea (which I do like). You might think I wouldn't be thinking straight enough to write but I actually provided way more information than she needed, down to the price per bottle for the tea. I'm surprised I didn't list the ingredients too. Finally we stopped by McDonalds for a shake (my lunch). I was slumped over asleep in the passenger seat with my cheeks stuffed with gauze and a small line of blood coming from the corner of my mouth. In hindsight, the drive-thru worker at McDonalds must have wondered if Ashley had slugged me. All of this is vague to me so I had to ask Ashley about the trip home. On a positive note, it doesn't appear that the "wisdom" part of the teeth means anything.

One Year Older and None the Wiser

Last week was a bear to get through. First of all, I taught my first CBS class on Monday night. My first preaching outline presentation and Hebrew test were Wednesday, and to top it off I had a paper due Thursday morning. By Friday I was beat. Thankfully, this week has been a little easier. I have completed 2 of the 5 class sessions in my CBS class. It's going well. I have 7 students of different ages and computer skills. The most difficult part is pacing the class so that I don't go too fast for some and too slow for others. I'll probably find the right pace by the last night. I'm considering teaching the class again in the fall, but I haven't fully decided yet.

A week from Friday I'm scheduled to have my wisdom teeth taken out. I'm not really worried about the procedure but I can't help but think about Samson and how he lost his power when his hair was shaved off. I just hope there's no significance in the name of the particular teeth I'll be losing.

Tomorrow I will instantly become 1 year older. I don't understand why some people dread their birthdays. I for one welcome another year and thank the Lord for giving it to me.

A Long Trip and a Short Race

I had an interesting meeting with Dr. Wallace last Friday. I had actually planned to meet him in his office to give him some computer help, but when I arrived, he told me that he would be back in a few minutes and wanted to talk about Patmos. When he got back, he told me that he had a letter (in Greek) ready to mail to the monastery on Patmos asking if we could come photograph manuscripts. Last year we tried to make arrangements to travel there but our plans never materialized. This time, it is looking a lot more promising. We hope to hear something back in a month or so, and until then, I'm eagerly awaiting any news.

Tomorrow night I begin teaching in the Center for Biblical Studies on the DTS campus. I'm a little nervous but I'm also comfortable with the material so everything should go fine. I will be teaching computer Bible study tools so it's a topic that I know, and I'm excited to be teaching a class where the students will walk away with some tools to help them better study the Bible.

Today was the AWANA pine car derby at Lake Ridge Bible Church. This year Caleb and I made a shark car. The competition this year was fierce, including some great race car designs: a wedge of cheese with mice on it, a Domino's delivery car, Barbie in a bubble bath (tastefully done), and the fastest flip-flop I've ever seen. We didn't win this year but still had fun and Caleb cheered for his friend who won second place. Maybe next year we'll be making 2 cars, one for Caleb and one for Jacob.

Patmos - a small Greek island in the Aegean Sea off the coast of Turkey. It is the home of the Monastery of Evangelist and Apostle John the Theologian and is the location where the Apostle John wrote the book of Revelation.
